What is free and what is paid

We want you to know exactly what you get before you pay. Your first file gets a free preview: we transcribe the first 3 minutes and show you the opening lines. The preview is real output from the same engine that produces the full transcript, so you can judge the accuracy on your own recording.

The full transcript of a file costs $2.99, once. That covers the whole file (up to 60 minutes), the full text on screen, TXT and SRT downloads, and 7 days to come back and download again. There is no subscription and nothing renews.

Supported formats: MP3, M4A, WAV and MP4 video

DropTranscribe reads the formats your browser can play. That includes MP3 podcasts and recordings, M4A files such as iPhone Voice Memos and WhatsApp audio exports, WAV, AAC, and the audio track of MP4 and MOV videos from phones, Zoom or screen recorders. You don't need to convert video to audio first: the audio is extracted inside your browser, so a large video never has to be uploaded in full.

If a file won't open, your browser doesn't support its codec. Try Chrome on a computer, or convert the file to MP3 and drop it again.

Accuracy: Whisper large-v3-turbo speech recognition

Transcripts are produced by Whisper large-v3-turbo, a modern open speech recognition model that handles accents, background noise and more than 90 languages. The language is detected automatically. Clear speech with one or two speakers usually comes out nearly word-perfect. Heavy music, crosstalk or very quiet speakers lower accuracy, and that is exactly what the free preview lets you check before paying.

Every line carries a timestamp, and the SRT file is ready to load as captions in YouTube, Premiere Pro, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve or VLC.

Privacy: your audio is deleted within 24 hours

There is no signup. The audio we receive is stored only while it is being transcribed and is deleted automatically within 24 hours. Preview transcripts are deleted after 24 hours and unlocked transcripts after 7 days. We never use your recordings to train models, and we never show your file name or text to analytics.
